Bishop: Bataan residents oppose nuclear plant

A bishop from Bataan is confident the people would oppose the revival of the mothballed Bataan nuclear power plant (BNPP) due to safety concerns. Bishop Ruperto Santos of Balanga on Sunday said this was in response to President Duterte鈥檚 call for dialogue with Bataan residents regarding the government鈥檚 plan to revive the plant. As quoted by CBCP黑料社, the official news arm of Catholic Bishops鈥 Conference of the Philippines, Santos said the diocese and the officials of Bataan were united against the nuclear power plant rehabilitation plans. 鈥淭he voice of our people is strongly, openly no,鈥 he said. Santos said the amount of damage that a potential nuclear accident could cause 鈥渉eavily outweighs its benefits.鈥 鈥Jodee A. Agoncillo
