No more daytime videoke, karaoke sessions in San Juan
MANILA, Philippines — Videoke, karaoke and other amplified audio devices are banned in San Juan from Mondays to Saturdays to help students focus on online classes at home, the city government said Thursday.
San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora signed the City Ordinance No. 78, which bans the “use of videoke and karaoke systems and other amplified audio, video devices, engaging in noisy activities, and playing loud music in jeepneys and private vehicles” from Mondays to Saturdays.
“We ask our constituents to cooperate and help out our students in whatever way they can. This is another way of making sure those studying at home will have a conducive studying environment,” the mayor said in a statement.
Those activities are only allowed from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. from Mondays to Saturdays, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. during Sundays.
First-time offenders will pay a fine of P3,000. Meanwhile, those with subsequent offenses will face a fine of P5,000 or imprisonment of not more than three months.[ac]
