LEGAZPI CITY — Moderate rains spawned by Severe Tropical Storm “Quinta” (international name: Molave) Sunday morning submerged over a hundred houses in Barangay (village) Cagbulacao in Cagraray Island in Bacacay town, Albay province.

Bryan Berdin, Bacacay Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) chief, said moderate rains dumped by Quinta caused an already silted river channel to overflow, causing an ankle-deep flood in the said village at around 10 a.m.

Berdin, in a phone interview, said the village has about 220 houses and that some 100 families were affected by the flood which immediately subsided when the rain stopped.

He said as a preemptive disaster measure, village officials have already evacuated the flood-affected families to safer grounds.

Berdin said flooding is a normal occurrence in said village which, aside from being a low-lying area, is also situated near a shoreline.
