Pagasa sees at least 3 more storms in PH before yearend

MANILA, Philippines — After a series of typhoons that hit the country just this month of November, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said at least three tropical cyclones are expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) before 2020 ends.

“For the month of November, ang ating forecast, 1 to 3 at nakatatlo na tayo na bagyo for November and it’s only the 12th day of November so mayroon pa tayong 18 days left,” Pagasa weather forecaster Ariel Rojas said on Thursday.

(For November, our forecast is 1 to 3, and already three typhoons struck this November, and it’s only the 12th of November, so there are 18 more days left.)

Rojas said for December, two to three storms may enter PAR.

“So, at least before the year 2020 ends, we are still expecting at least three more tropical cyclones,” he added.

The state weather bureau said as of 4 p.m., Ulysses was plotted 200 kilometers west of Iba in Zambales. It has maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour (km/h) near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph.

Pagasa said Ulysses was moving westward at 25 kph and is seen to exit PAR on Friday morning.
