Gunmen kill ex-village councilman in Nueva Ecija
ALIAGA, Nueva Ecija — A former village councilman who previously surrendered under the government’s drug reformatory program called “Oplan Tokhang” was gunned down by assailants on a motorcycle here on Saturday, police said.
The victim was identified as Edurado Simeon, 58, and a resident of Barangay San Juan here.
Police Staff Sergeant Miguel Antonio Reymundo, investigator at the town’s police station, said Simeon was jogging near his house during the attack.
The victim managed to run away, but the gunmen chased and shot him consecutively, causing his instant death.
Police said Simeon was included in the municipal police’s drug watchlist but had been admitted to Bahay Pagbabago in 2019. He was also linked to an unspecified crime gang.
The assailants were being tracked down, police said.
