Kidapawan City village exec survives ambush

KIDAPAWAN CITY –– A village chairman in Kidapawan City survived an ambush by two still-unidentified gunmen early evening on Tuesday, Jan. 19.

Colonel Ramel Hojilla, Kidapawan City police chief, said Albert Espina, 38, chairman of Sto. Niño village, was driving his pickup truck heading for home with his wife and a child around 7 p.m. when the gunmen flagged them down along a dimly-lit road in the village.

One of the two men then opened fire using a cal. 45 pistol.

Espina suffered bullet wounds on his elbow and shoulder and is now recuperating in a local hospital, Hojilla said.

Hojilla said Espina’s wife and child were unharmed.

The motive and identities of the attackers are being investigated now by the police, Hojilla added.
