TACLOBAN CITY鈥擜 public school principal in Rosario town, Northern Samar province faces criminal charges following his arrest on Wednesday (Jan. 27) for illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and a hand grenade.
The arrest of Nestor Ada, 55, and principal of the Rosario National High School, was ordered by a court.
Seized from him were a Colt Defender Series 80 . 45 caliber pistol, a magazine, four bullets and one hand grenade.
Col. Arnel Apud, Northern Samar police chief, said Ada鈥檚 arrest was part of the police鈥檚 campaign against unlicensed firearms.
In a statement, he appealed to the public to turn over unlicensed firearms to police or secure licenses to possess guns. 鈥淥therwise we will be compelled to apply for a search warrant against anybody,鈥� he said.
Ada is now detained at the police provincial headquarters.
