In a seemingly unusual case of impaired driving, an intoxicated driver called the police to report the crime the driver had committed in Ontario, Canada.

The driver, whose identity was withheld, was found driving in Oakville after he made the call, the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) disclosed on Twitter on Feb. 22.

鈥淭his might be a first for us. Driver calls 911 to report an Impaired Driver; themselves,鈥 police said.

Police reported that the driver was four times over the legal limit and was 鈥渟afely arrested.鈥

Netizens, meanwhile, found the story quite unbelievable, with one Twitter user with the handle @JustinMochon replying, 鈥淪o many questions鈥 Why would they report on themselves, then continue to commit the offense?!鈥

鈥淢y brain hurts trying to comprehend this one. I feel like you鈥檙e making it up,鈥 the netizen added.

Constable Marc Taraso, who was recently nominated for a Police Hero award by the Police Association of Ontario, meanwhile, assured that the report was true.

鈥淥ccam鈥檚 razor; just telling it like it happened! As for the why; well that鈥檚 sometimes a story best suited for the courtroom!鈥 Taraso said. Occam鈥檚 Razor (sometimes spelled Ockham) is a philosophical rule claiming that the simplest explanation is most likely correct.

The incident occurred on Feb. 21, as per Inside Halton yesterday, Feb. 24. The HRPS reported in a release that five impaired driving cases were recorded from Feb. 19 to Feb. 21.

Impaired driving is the criminal offense of operating, having care or control of a motor vehicle while the person鈥檚 ability to operate the motor vehicle is impaired by alcohol or a drug, according to the HRPS website.聽 /ra
