COVID-19 cases in remote Batanes rise to 9
TUGUEGARAO CITY-Two 49-year-old women on Monday (March 29) tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Batanes province, authorities said.
Both traveled back to Batanes on board a Philippine Airlines flight on March 20 and were reportedly exposed to another COVID-19 patient in the province.
One of the women is a native of Basco town while the other lives in Sabtang, according to the provincial government.
Both have no symptoms and quarantined at the isolation facility of Batanes Resort.
Four other COVID-19 patients in Batanes were already in stable condition but remained isolated in the same quarantine facility. Their closed contacts yielded negative results after their swab tests.
Batanes Gov. Marilou Cayco has again asked villagers to maintain social distancing and observe minimum health protocols, such as wearing face masks and shields.
