Six people were mistakenly given saline injections instead of COVID-19 jabs in a vaccine clinic in Ontario, Canada.

Local healthcare provider Mackenzie Health apologized for the incident through a statement on its Twitter page today, April 20. They stated that the incident happened on March 28 but was identified by their internal quality assurance team “in a timely manner.”

“Saline is used to dilute the COVID-19 vaccine prior to administration. Receiving a saline injection does not cause any harm however, this should not have happened,” the clinic explained.

Mackenzie Health also assured the public that the clinic has been in contact with the affected individuals and they have been informed about the situation. The facility said it will also be “offering support” for the patients and will have them tested for antibodies to find out if they should be re-injected with the COVID-19 vaccine.

“We sincerely apologize for the error and for the uncertainty and concern this situation has caused,” it stated.
