Typhoon Bising weakens over Philippine Sea

MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Bising (international name: Surigae) has weakened while decelerating over the Philippine Sea of Babuyan Islands, the state weather bureau said Thursday.

Bising was last spotted 350 kilometers east of Calayan town, Cagayan, packing maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 185 kph, while moving northward at 10 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 5 a.m. bulletin.

  • eastern portion of Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gonzaga, Lal-Lo, Gattaran, Baggao, Peñablanca, Camalaniugan, Buguey, Aparri, Santa Teresita, Alcala, Amulung, Iguig, Tuguegarao City), including Babuyan Islands
  • northeastern portion of Isabela (San Pablo, Maconacon, Divilacan, Palanan)

Bising will move northward or north-northeastward on Thursday away from the landmass of Luzon before turning east-northeastward Friday and eastward on Saturday, Pagasa said.

It is expected to be outside the Philippine area of responsibility by Saturday evening or early Sunday, as it steadily weakens, according to the state weather service.
