COVID-19 grips Olongapo City, kills 2 more seniors

SAN ANTONIO, Zambales—Two more elderly COVID-19 patients died in Olongapo on Sunday (May 2) as the city continued to grapple with fatalities from the disease caused by the coronavirus SARS Cov2.

In an advisory, Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr. said the latest to die of the disease were two men, aged 60 and 80, and both residents of the village of New Asinan.

The 80-year-old man was a government official but no other details were released about him except that he was hypertensive.

Paulino also said the patient was hospitalized on April 16 after developing mild fever. Results of tests showed the man was positive for SARS Cov2.

The other fatality was a 60-year-old man who was diabetic and experienced chest pain and difficulty in breathing. He was declared dead on arrival at a private hospital.

Paulino said the two new deaths raised to 69 the total number of COVID-19 fatalities in the city.

In the last three days, COVID-19 had claimed the lives of at least four people in the city, all senior citizens.

So far, Olongapo has 175 active cases out of 1,512 infections recorded since 2020r. The city also registered 1,268 recoveries.
