Subic freeport workers among 15 new COVID-19 patients in Olongapo City

SAN ANTONIO, Zambales–At least six workers in private companies inside the Subic Bay Freeport were among 15 new COVID-19 patients in Olongapo City, an official said on Thursday (May 6).

The patients contracted the virus at work and showed symptoms of the disease, like sore throat, cough and fever, according to Olongapo Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr.

Also among the latest to get infected by the virus are elderly residents and those belonging to the same households.

So far, Olongapo has 198 active cases out of 1,579 total infections recorded since 2020. At least 1,308 of these patients had already recovered from the disease which has no known cure.

The city did not record any COVID-19 deaths on that day after logging at least one fatality daily within a week.

Paulino said the city’s COVID-19 death toll remains 72.
