Tacloban mayor urges constituents to be vaccinated against COVID-19

TACLOBAN CITY –– Mayor Alfred Romualdez appealed to the people of this city to submit themselves to vaccination against COVID-19 as he ordered the putting up of more vaccination sites to speed up the vaccine rollout.

City Health Office records show that 4,800 individuals, who belong to the categories A1 to A3, have received the vaccines.

A1 refers to medical health workers and other frontliners, while A2 refers to senior citizens. A3 involves those who have comorbidities.

“I’m calling on my fellow Taclobanons to get inoculated with any available brand of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines, noting that all jabs could provide protection against severe effects of the disease,” Romualdez, who already had himself vaccinated, said in a statement.

The city government has tied up with the Leyte Normal University (LNU) and a shopping mall, as well as a gymnasium in one of the subdivisions in the city to be used as vaccination hubs.

On Monday, Romualdez visited the LNU gymnasium, where 800 people got their first dose and 370 others their second jab of the vaccine.

The Department of Health in Eastern Visayas on Tuesday received 28,800 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines to be distributed to six provinces, including Tacloban and Ormoc cities.

As of Tuesday, the region had 623 active COVID-19 cases with 293 deaths.
