MANILA, Philippines — Recycling waste could earn residents in Quezon City “environmental points” that they could exchange for basic food items.

The Trash to Cashback waste trading program that was first implemented in Quezon City Hall will be expanded to the city’s villages to reduce plastic waste and encourage recycling in communities.

Residents can bring recyclable materials like single-use plastics, paper and PET bottles to drop-off areas in their respective communities in exchange for “environmental points.”

The points earned can then be converted into bXTRA cashback, and used to redeem grocery items at bXTRA outlets and bXTRA food deliveries, the city government said on Tuesday.
