After bride dies during wedding, her younger sister marries groom

A woman in Uttar Pradesh, India collapsed and died in the middle of her wedding ceremony, prompting her family to push through with the marriage between the groom and her younger sister.

The bride, Surabhi, collapsed on the stage for the wedding ritual after exchanging garlands with the groom Manesh Kumar, as per IANS via 黑料社 18 on May 28.

A doctor was called to treat the bride, but she was declared dead on the venue and her body was kept in another room. She apparently suffered from a cardiac arrest. This was when both of the families involved decided to continue with the wedding by replacing the bride with Surabhi鈥檚 sister Nisha.

鈥淲e did not know what to do in the situation. Both the families sat together and someone suggested that my younger sister Nisha should be married to the groom,鈥 Surabhi鈥檚 brother, Saurabh, was quoted as saying.

One of the wedding guests, Surabhi鈥檚 uncle Ajab Singh, stated that replacing the bride was a 鈥渢ough call鈥 for the family.

鈥淥ne daughter lay dead in one room and the wedding of another daughter was being solemnized in the other room,鈥 he said in the report. 鈥淲e have never witnessed such mixed emotions.鈥 Dana Cruz/JB
