TACLOBAN CITY – A group of doctors and nurses in Leyte is calling on the public to stay at home and follow all the minimum health protocols to slow down the spread of COVID-19.

The Leyte Medical Society made the appeal as the Department of Health (DOH) in Eastern Visayas reported 297 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday—the highest single-day tally in the region.

“Staying at home is the best that we can give to our health-care workers who are laboring day and night just to give possible the care they can (and) despite the limitations they have,” the group said.

“Let us help and protect our last line of defense, our healthcare workers. Your caring and loving doctors at the Leyte Medical Society are always here to help you. Help us also by staying at home, observing the minimum health standards and have yourselves vaccinated,” it added.

Of the 297 new cases reported by the DOH on Saturday, 167 came from Leyte province alone, to include the cities of Ormoc and Tacloban which are administratively independent from the provincial government.
