/ 10:45 AM July 06, 2021

SAN ANTONIO, Zambales–The Masinloc Bay in this province remains free of red tide toxins based on the recent test by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

In its latest shellfish bulletin issued last week, the BFAR said all kinds of shellfish and “alamang” (shrimp fry) from the bay are safe for human consumption provided these are fresh and washed thoroughly.

Masinloc Bay is among the areas nationwide that BFAR regularly monitors for red tide.

Red tide refers to algal blooms where the water is discolored by a high concentration of toxic and nontoxic algae.

In nearby Bataan, at least nine coastal towns were also declared free of the red tide toxins. These are Mariveles, Limay, Orion, Pilar, Balanga, Hermosa, Orani, Abucay, and Samal.
