Iloilo City launches 1st barangay-based vaccination site

ILOILO CITY—This City’s COVID-19 vaccination drive is knocking at residents’ homes with the launching of its first barangay-based vaccination center and inoculation house calls.
The vaccination site at the Marian Hall of the Miraculous Medal Parish Church in Barangay Calumpang in Molo District will cater to vulnerable groups who have difficulty accessing the main vaccination centers in the City.
Calumpang is among the most populous villages in the City.
Those targeted in the barangay vaccination site are persons with disabilities, bed-ridden elderly residents, and those with comorbidities, according to City Mayor Jerry Treñas.
Vaccinators will inoculate bed-ridden residents in their homes.
Article continues after this advertisementTreñas said the initiative seeks to bring vaccines closer to residents, “making it easier, faster and accessible for them.”
Article continues after this advertisement“Through our first-ever barangay (vaccination) site at Calumpang, we can immunize our bed-ridden senior citizens and those with comorbidities at their homes. With the expected arrival of more vaccines, we can open more barangay-based (vaccination) sites to light a flicker of hope to the vulnerable sectors of society,” he said in a statement.
There are six main vaccination centers for the 180 barangays of the City. These include the Iloilo Convention Center and Ateneo de Iloilo in Mandurriao District, Central Philippine University in Jaro District, the University of San Agustin in the City Proper District, University of the Philippines Visayas, and Iloilo City National High School in Molo District.
The city government targets to inoculate 300,000 city residents and 150,000 non-city residents working in the City to achieve herd immunity.
