150 new COVID-19 cases, one new death within PNP ranks
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) registered 150 new COVID-19 infections and one new death as of Monday, August 23, its Public Information Office (PIO) said.
Figures from the PNP showed that active infections are now at 1,846 while 116 more patients recovered, bringing the total recovery count to 31,492.
All in all, 33,438 police non-commissioned and commissioned officers have been infected with COVID-19.
The country is still seeing high COVID-19 infections, which health officials blamed on the spread of the more infectious Delta variant.
Last Saturday, the Department of Health (DOH) admitted that based on the genomic samples sequenced by the Philippine Genome Centre (PGC), the country is already seeing a community transmission of the Delta variant.
Since August 11, the country has been experiencing a daily increase in COVID-19 cases hovering above 10,000, with the most number of cases coming in last Friday at 17,231.
Article continues after this advertisementIt has not slowed down since, with DOH recording 16,694 and 16,044 new infections on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
