A man who led anti-mask efforts in the United States is now hospitalized in critical condition due to COVID-19.

Caleb Wallace of Texas has been described to be 鈥渘ot doing good鈥 by his pregnant wife, Jessica, via on Aug. 26.

鈥淚t鈥檚 not looking in our favor, his lungs are stiff due to the fibrosis. They called and said they鈥檝e run out of options for him and asked if I would consent to a do not resuscitate. And it would be up to us when to stop treatments,鈥 Jessica said.

鈥淢y heart just can鈥檛. I can鈥檛 imagine my life without him. [I鈥檓] sorry if I don鈥檛 respond to any calls or texts or messages, I am just broken up,鈥 she added.

The post came with a photo of Caleb with one of her three daughters. Their fourth child is due Sept. 27, around two months after Caleb鈥檚 hospitalization due to the virus, as per Tri-City Herald聽on Aug. 27.

Prior to getting infected, Caleb publicly fought against COVID-19 precautions including wearing face masks.

He is also the founder of 鈥淭he San Angelo Freedom Defenders,鈥 which fought for 鈥渢he basic rights of breathing free air, moving about freely, going into businesses without being harassed about a mask,鈥 according to the report.

Jessica, however, still wore a mask despite her husband鈥檚 beliefs, according to聽厂迟补苍诲补谤诲-罢颈尘别蝉听as cited by the聽Tri-City Herald.

After his symptoms started on July 26, Caleb reportedly refused to get tested or see a doctor and just self-treated with an inhaler, vitamins and the controversial horse-deworming drug Ivermectin.

He was eventually hospitalized and has been unconscious and heavily sedated since Aug. 8, the report said.

Around 3.5 million COVID-19 cases have been recorded in Texas as of this writing, while around 56,000 fatalities have so far been recorded. Ian Biong聽/ra
