Biliran town sees surge in COVID-19 cases
TACLOBAN CITY – The town of Naval in Biliran province is experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases.
Among the new infections involved 18 members of the same household.
Naval Mayor Gerard Espina said he will place the family’s compound under lockdown to prevent the further spread of the virus.
The province earlier confirmed the presence of the highly transmissible COVID-19 Delta variant in the town.
Naval, the provincial capital, has 27 new COVID-19 cases as reported by the Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday, bringing its total number of infections to 522.
Article continues after this advertisementThe town currently has 96 active cases with 12 deaths.
Biliran Gov. Rogelio Espina urged his constituents to strictly observe all the health protocols and to have themselves vaccinated against the virus.
So far, 25,404 people from the province have received the vaccine. Of the number, 15,425 are now fully vaccinated.
