161 COVID fatalities bring death toll to 34,498 – DOH
MANILA, Philippines — The number of COVID-19 deaths in the country is now at 34,498 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 161 fatalities on Tuesday.
Just one week into September, the DOH has recorded 1,053 deaths. The past seven days have seen an average of 150 deaths.
Deaths from COVID-19 account for 1.63 percent of the total 2,121,308 cases confirmed since the virus hit the country in early 2020.
Additionally, the local death toll accounts for 0.75 percent of the total death toll worldwide, which stands at 4,575,144, according to the COVID-19 tracker at Johns Hopkins University.
The DOH also recorded 18,012 fresh cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday and 18,945 recoveries, slightly bringing down the active cases to 158,637.
