MANILA, Philippines — Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio said Thursday she would no longer run for the presidency in the 2022 national elections after her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, accepted his nomination as the vice presidential candidate of PDP-Laban.

Duterte-Carpio cited a supposed agreement in their family that only one of them can run for a national post in next year’s polls.

“I am not running for a national position as we both agreed only one of us would run for a national position in 2022,” Duterte-Carpio said in a text message to the media.

Asked if her regional party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), will lend support for the PDP-Laban in next year’s elections in the same way her party did in 2019, Duterte-Carpio said: “No. I will not share my light this time.”

Despite this, Duterte-Carpio assured the public that her relationship with her father is the “same as it was before.”

“Our politics do not interfere with our familial relationship. Iba ang trabaho, iba ang pamilya. Walang personalan,” Duterte-Carpio said.
