FDA: Nasal sprays won’t prevent, treat COVID-19

/ 04:34 AM September 14, 2021

MANILA, Philippines — Health authorities and doctors have warned against nasal sprays that falsely claim to prevent or treat COVID-19.

In separate advisories, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Philippine Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (PSO-HNS) said commercially available nasal sprays served some other use.

“The products do not have active pharmaceutical ingredients that directly treat, eliminate or prevent diseases. They should not be used as substitutes to medicines and vaccines to prevent or treat SARS-CoV-2 infection or COVID-19,” the FDA stressed.

“The PSO-HNS reiterates the stand of the FDA that these should not be used as substitutes for medicines and vaccines to prevent or treat COVID-19,” the doctors said.
