NDRRMC: Jolina left P1B in agriculture damage

MANILA, Philippines—Typhoon Jolina (Chanthu) has left P1 billion in damage to agriculture, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Tuesday (Sept. 14).

The damage was reported in the regions of Central Luzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas and Eastern Visayas.

Damage to infrastructure was estimated at P63 million, the NDRRMC said in its bulletin.

At least 15,000 houses were damaged in areas hit by Jolina.

Jolina, the 10th storm to hit the country this year, also left 19 people dead. Three fatalities were confirmed while 16 deaths were being validated.

Five were injured and three were missing.

Jolina, a typhoon at its peak, displaced or had a direct impact on at least 313,399 individuals—81,077 families—in Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Western Visayas, Soccsksargen and the National Capital Region.

The typhoon forced 11,212 individuals—or 2,958 families—to take shelter in 181 evacuation centers. At least 18,620 individuals—or 4,575 families—took shelter in the houses of relatives and friends.
