Cadiz City councilor dies of heart attack
BACOLOD CITY––A Cadiz City councilor died of a heart attack Tuesday, which was believed to have been triggered by COVID-19.
Councilor Agustin Jesmar Desuyo, 57, was rushed to the Cadiz City Emergency Clinic where he died, said Cadiz Mayor Salvador Escalante.
The doctors believed Desuyo was suffering from COVID-19 but was unaware of it.
During the Cadiz Sangguniang Panlungsod Zoom session this week, Desuyo’s colleagues noticed that he was quiet and appeared to be sick.
“He usually actively participates in the weekly city council meetings,” Escalante said.

He was confined at the intensive care unit (ICU) and was later transferred to a regular room but continued to have difficulty breathing, although he had recovered from COVID-19.
“Today, we lost a great man, a good leader, a friend, a father of Negros Occidental High School”, a statement on the DepEd Tayo NOHS Facebook page said Wednesday night.
“You have left us with a brand of leadership that cares so much for its people without putting aside quality service. You have loved us, and we thank you for that,” the statement added.
