DOH records 651 more variant cases; Delta still more common among samples

MANILA, Philippines — Additional COVID-19 variant cases were detected in the country including the more transmissible Delta variant, the Department of Health reported Monday.

During the DOH media forum, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that 746 samples, collected in March, April, September, and October, were sequenced on October 22.

Of the sequenced samples, 380 were Delta variant cases, 166 Beta variant cases, 104 Alpha variant cases, and one case of B.1.1.318.

“The Delta (variant) is the most common lineage nationally among sequenced samples,” the DOH said, citing its statistics.

With the logged new variant cases, the total variant cases are now 4,811 Delta variant cases, 3,479 Beta variant cases, and 3,042 Alpha variant cases.

The latest run brought the number of sequenced samples to 17,893 as of October 24, of which, 88.76 percent or 15,882 are with lineages.

Of the sequenced samples, 1,169 or 6.53 percent are from incoming international travelers.
