COVID-19 cases in Quezon decline in October

LUCENA CITY––Quezon province recorded a remarkable drop in COVID-19 cases in October, the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) said in its 5 p.m. bulletin on Sunday, Oct. 31.

The data showed that the province, now under the less stringent Alert Level 2 until Nov. 14, recorded 11 new daily infections, closing the total number of COVID-19 cases in October to 2,060 from 5,343 in September.

In August, the province logged 3,192 COVID-19 cases; July, 1,712; June, 2,377, and May, 2,413.

The recorded active cases in Quezon have also consequently declined to 554 from 2,074 on Oct. 1, the IPHO said.

Lucena City, Quezon’s capital, topped the list with 239 active virus carriers.

The province’s highest tally was on Sept. 21 this year, with 2,570 active cases.

The COVID-19 death toll in Quezon now stands at 1,415. Lucena City has the most number of fatalities at 193.

At least seven of the 41 municipalities in the province no longer have any recorded COVID-19 cases as of Sunday, the IPHO report showed.

Considered COVID-19-free are Plaridel, Real, Pitogo, Patnanungan, Perez, Jomalig, and Quezon towns. Those previously infected in these municipalities have either recovered or died.

As of Oct. 24, at least 317,741 residents in the province have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, while 635,266 had their first dose, the IPHO reported.
