Senate eyes law to identify social media trolls

/ 05:12 AM December 10, 2021

Social media platforms should be compelled to expose the identity of online trolls who are sowing hate speech and falsehoods, Sen. Franklin Drilon proposed on Thursday.

Like in the United States, he said the government should be able to compel social media platforms to reveal the data that they have on trolls, and require to take down such posts or suffer fines.

The senator made the proposal during the hearing on Senate Resolution No. 953, chaired by Sen. Francis Pangilinan to probe social media trolling. —MELVIN GASCON
