‘We’re raised not to be parrots of our parents,’ says Nancy Binay on pa’s possible Senate race win

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Nancy Binay assured Wednesday that she would not be a “parrot” of her father, former Vice President Jejomar Binay, should he win in next year’s senatorial race.

The incumbent senator reiterated they were raised by their parents to be “independent thinkers.”

“So even if there are two Binays in the Senate, if that’s not our advocacy or that’s not our belief, it does not mean that we will always be voting together,” she told ANC’s “Headstart.”

“Hindi automatic yun na porket dalawa yung Binay, dalawang boto na yung mangyayari,” she added.

(It is not automatic that because you have two Binays in the Senate, you will get two same votes)

Sen. Binay nonetheless expressed her readiness to possibly work again with her father, this time in the Senate.

In the past eight years that she has been senator, she revealed having policy differences with the former vice president while respecting that “they can’t be the same.”
