Pulse Asia's December survey: Marcos and Duterte-Carpio team is top choice

MANILA, Philippines — The tandem of former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio topped the December 2021 survey of Pulse Asia.

Some 53 percent of the respondents in the Pulse Asia poll conducted December 1-6 picked Marcos as their presidential bet while 20 percent chose Vice President Leni Robredo. Both  Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso and Senator Manny Pacquiao received eight percent of the respondents’ approval while Senator Panfilo Lacson garnered six percent.

For vice president, Duterte-Carpio got 45 percent while Senate President Vicente Sotto III had 31 percent. Trailing them were Senator Francis Pangilinan with 12 percent, Dr. Willing Ong with six percent, and House Deputy Speaker Lito Atienza with one percent.

A total of 2,400 respondents 18 years old and above participated in the survey, which has a ± 2% error margin.

By the numbers

The latest survey posted on Pulse Asia’s website showed that Marcos bested other presidential aspirants in the National Capital Region (61 percent), Balance Luzon (51 percent), Visayas (42 percent), and Mindanao (64 percent).

In comparison, Robredo garnered 14 percent in the NCR, 24 percent in Balance Luzon, 42 percent in the Visayas, and 10 percent in Mindanao.

Marcos likewise outpaced other presumptive candidates in terms of voters from Class ABC (53 percent), Class D (54 percent), and Class E (49 percent).

Competition for the vice-presidential post appeared a lot closer in the recent Pulse Asia poll. Duterte-Carpio led in National Capital Region (45 percent) and Mindanao (82 percent) while Sotto led in Balance Luzon (36 percent) and Visayas (38 percent).

Duterte-Carpio led other vice presidential aspirants in terms of voters from Class ABC (47 percent), Class D (44 percent), and Class E (48 percent).
