MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) will need some P3.37- billion budget to rebuild and repair schools in the Visayas and Mindanao damaged by Typhoon Odette, (international name: Rai) Education Secretary Leonor Briones said on Tuesday.

The budget will be used to reconstruct 1,086 totally damaged classrooms and rehabilitate 1,316 partially damaged others.

During President Rodrigo Duterte’s taped briefing, Briones showed some pictures of damaged schools, one of which is a building in Baybay Elementary School in Siargao “that seemed like it went through a grinder.”

The agency is planning to get the funds from the 2022 national budget, which is yet to be signed by Duterte.
