DOJ orders NBI to probe murder of Cavite prosecutor

MANILA, Philippines — Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct a case build-up and investigation that will lead to the identification of those responsible for the murder of Cavite Prosecutor Edilbert Mendoza.
Mendoza was shot to death outside his house on the morning of Dec. 31.

“I have directed the NBI to immediately join in the manhunt and apprehension of the perpetrators of this treacherous crime,” Guevarra told reporters.

The NBI is required to submit a periodic report on the progress of its investigation within 30 days.
