Loren Legarda extends help to home province Antique, other areas badly hit by ‘Odette’

Team Legarda’s distribution of goods to Typhoon victims in Negros’ 5th district

MANILA, Philippines — Former Sen. Loren Legarda extended help to the areas badly hit by super typhoon Odette, including her home province Antique.

The former three-term senator donated cash assistance, food packs and construction materials not only to Antique but also to Negros Occidental, Cebu Province, Bohol, Tagbilaran City, Kabankalan City, Sipalay City, Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu City, Talisay City, and Cebu City.

The senator has decided to tap on personal family resources as the arrival of the national government funds is expected to be delayed.

“My province is also among the affected areas, and our neighboring provinces in Visayas, as well as in the southern part of Luzon and in Mindanao, were also severely damaged and have recorded casualties. In these trying times, our fellow Filipinos count on quick action and immediate response,” Legarda said in a statement.

“Kaisa ng aking pamilya, minabuti po naming magpaabot ng financial assistance upang mabigyan ng pagkakataon ang mga LGUs na gamitin ang halagang ito sa kung ano sa tingin nila ang higit na kailangan ng mga tao sa kanilang mga lokalidad.”

The former senator also sent help during the holidays to other areas including Dinagat Islands, Palawan, Southern Leyte, Carmen, and Surigao City.

The recent death toll for Typhoon Odette that whipped the Visayas and Mindanao in December last year climbed to 407, according to a National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) report on January 3.
