President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Senior Deputy Executive Secretary Michael Ong as associate justice of the Court of Appeals (CA), Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles announced on Thursday.
Ong will fill the seat vacated by Samuel Gaerlan, who was appointed to the Supreme Court in January 2020.
The new magistrate received his law degree from the University of the Philippines in 2002.
He later served as court attorney for former Supreme Court Associate Justice and Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales and corporate legal counsel of the PNOC Exploration Corp.
