Pacquiao calls out video showing Philippines as a ‘province of China’
MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Manny Pacquiao called out on Wednesday a video showing the Philippines as a “province of China.”
The presidential candidate tagged the video as unacceptable for disregarding the sacrifices made by all those would had fought for independence against foreigners.
The viral video shows a map of the Philippines, particularly important cities such as Cebu, Davao, and Manila, and it’s labeled as “.”
“It should not be like that. So much time and so many lives of our ancestors, our parents, have been sacrificed just so we could have independence — so that we could be independent of other countries,” Pacquiao told reporters in Filipino.
“Let’s not let it go on. Let’s fight against it,” Pacquiao added.

In 2020, a product called Ashley Shine Keratin Treatment Deep Repair was packaged by its foreign owner as having an address in “Manila, Province of China.”
In 2018, banners welcoming visitors to the Philippines as a ”province of China” were seen hanging on several footbridges in Metro Manila.
The Philippines has been in a dispute with China over the years over the West Philippine Sea.
