IBP on Edsa revolt anniv: Days ahead will be turning point in people’s history

On the 36th anniversary of the Edsa People Power Revolution, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) reminded Filipinos to be vigilant to “defend our democracy.”

MANILA, Philippines — On the 36th anniversary of the Edsa People Power Revolution, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) reminded Filipinos to be vigilant to “defend our democracy.”

The IBP said that since the Edsa People Power revolution, which ousted in power the late president and dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr., the country has faced and overcome many challenges as a nation.

“Today we commemorate the 36th anniversary of the Edsa People Power revolution. Edsa stands against the battle of tyranny and oppression and the triumph of the human spirit and love of freedom,” the IBP said in a statement.

“The days ahead will be a turning point in our people’s history. More than ever, we must be vigilant to defend our democracy,” it added.

The IBP hopes that the EDSA People Power will “continue to inspire all Filipinos to work in solidarity to achieve peace, stability, and progress mindful to remain steadfast defenders of the freedoms already achieved.”

The four-day uprising now known as the Edsa People Power revolution happened from Feb. 22 to 25, 1986 and led to the collapse of the Marcos regime.

Millions of Filipinos marched on Edsa to join protests against controversial results of snap elections called by Marcos against Corazon Aquino, widow of opposition leader Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr.
