40% of Filipinos say their quality of life worsened — SWS survey

MANILA, Philippines — Forty percent of Filipinos said that their quality of life has worsened, based on the latest survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS).

The survey results, which were released Sunday, showed that 24 percent of 1,440 the respondents nationwide said their lives got better while 36 percent said it remains unchanged compared to a year ago.

The SWS survey was conducted from December 12 to 16. Sampling error margins are ±2.6% for national percentages and ±5.2% for Balance Luzon, Metro Manila, the Visayas, and Mindanao.

The 40 percent whose lives worsened were referred to by the SWS as the “losers” while those whose lives improved were the “gainers.”

The net gainer score, or the percent of gainers minus the percent of losers, is -16 which is classified as mediocre.

The net gainer score recorded in December is 28 points higher from the -44 in September 2021, but still 34 points below December 2019’s 18 points.

“The 28-point rise in the national Net Gainer score between September 2021 and December 2021 was due to improvements in all areas, especially in Metro Manila and Mindanao,” said the SWS in a statement.

Compared to September 2021, net gainers eased to mediocre in Metro Manila, Mindanao, and Balance Luzon.

Meanwhile, it relaxed from extremely low to very low in Visayas.

On the other hand, net gainers eased to mediocre among non-elementary graduates, elementary graduates, and junior high school graduates.

For college students, the net gainers eased from low to fair.
