TACLOBAN CITY – While Jhane Eyre Marie Olmedo was confident that she will pass the teachers licensure examinations, she was not expecting to get one of the highest scores.

Olmedo, 23, ranked third with a rating of 92.4% and was among the 12,074 passers of the January 2022 board exams for teachers.

“My only wish at that time was to pass the examination, and if ever I will land among the top 10, then that would be a big blessing,” she said in an interview.

Olmedo had to wait for two years before she was able to take the examination due to the pandemic that ravaged the country in 2020.

She finished her degree of secondary education major in biological sciences and graduated magna cum laude at the Leyte Normal University (LNU).

“God is so good that I not only passed the examination but I also made it to the top three. It was more than what I expected,” said Olmedo, a scholar under the Department of Science and Technology.

Asked about her plans, Olmedo said she wants to practice her profession as a teacher, mindful that the profession is among the country’s most overworked but underpaid workers.

“I don’t have any plans to work abroad as I want to help our next generation in my capacity as a teacher. This is the reason why I took the course and also upon the encouragement of my father,” she said.

Olmedo is finishing her masteral studies at LNU and vowed to help her family first before she settles down with her boyfriend.
