ILOILO CITY鈥撯揟he Iloilo River showed signs of life after a resident posted on March 13 his catch of palm-sized shrimps.

Last March 3, Task Force 2 of the Iloilo City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) collected 38 sacks of water waste from Iloilo River Esplanade 5 and 6.

In a post on Facebook, City Mayor Jerry Tre帽as said it was more than 10 years since they brought back the different species of fish in the river.

鈥淕lad to see the results of our efforts. The food on the table was made by our residents. I am glad we were able to give more livelihood to our living beings and entertainment for the families and adventures,鈥 he said.

In 2006, the Iloilo River Council (IRDC) was organized to facilitate the rehabilitation of the 13.5-kilometer river.

IRDC eventually became the Iloilo-Batiano River Development Council and initiated full-blown activities for the rehab in 2010.
