PILAR, Bataan 鈥 Bataan Gov. Albert Garcia on Tuesday (March 15) said the 620-megawatt Bataan Nuclear Power Plant in Morong town can be converted into a cloud-computing or data storage facility rather than rehabilitating and operating it in case of a power crisis.
Garcia issued the remark when he led the groundbreaking ceremony for a modern public market here, asserting that he is against operating the 50-year old nuclear plant that may pose a danger to the health and safety of Bataan residents.
鈥淭here are much safer sources of energy that we can develop during this time of power crisis, but not this age-old plant,鈥 said the governor.
Garcia said the national government may consider the provincial government鈥檚 suggestion, noting that the site of the plant is well-secured and fit for prospective information hub investors.
