Marcos win worries top Moro leader

DAVAO CITY—Moro Islamic Liberation Front chief Ahod “Al Haj Murad” Ebrahim, who is also interim chief minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, has expressed concern over the possibility of having the late dictator’s son lead the country.
Ebrahim gave his thoughts on the well-attended rallies of the UniTeam tandem of former Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte in Maguindanao, Sultan Kudarat, and Cotabato provinces over the past several days.
“We are concerned about a Marcos win and an eventual return to power in Malacañang. The wounds are still fresh,” he told the Inquirer over the phone.
Ebrahim was referring to the strings of abuses suffered by Moro communities and individuals at the height of martial law and in the course of quelling the Moro separatist rebellion then led by the Moro National Liberation Front.
“While Marcos Jr. was not the one behind the atrocities, he carries his father’s name. And if Muslims hear that name, they also relive the pain of the dictatorship,” he explained.
