MANILA, Philippines — A little over a month before the national elections, the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) party remains hopeful for a “landslide win” for the tandem of former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio.

Lakas-CMD president and House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez made the remark Thursday after both Marcos and Duterte-Carpio garnered 56 percentage points in the latest Pulse Asia voter preference survey.

Marcos reported a 9-percentage point drop while Duterte-Carpio had a 3 percentage-point gain. Still, the two candidates still lead the presidential and vice-presidential races based on the survey.

“We thank our people for keeping faith with our candidates. We pray that they will continue supporting them and sharing and spreading their message of hope, unity, and patriotism,” Romualdez said in a statement.

“As Mayor Sara has stated, we have a running-scared mindset. We will do our utmost to improve our candidates’ 56-percent voter support. We remain hopeful of a landslide victory,” Romualdez said in a statement.

Romualdez said Marcos and Duterte-Carpio will revisit some areas that the tandem had already visited as well as attempt to reach the “remotest communities” in the remaining days of the campaign.

Duterte-Carpio earlier said there is no assurance of a win until there is a formal proclamation after the elections.

“Confidence? There’s none of that because we are always running scared. That should be our mindset,” Duterte-Carpio, speaking in a mix of Filipino and English, said in Pampanga earlier this week.
