MPD now tracking riding-in-tandem behind ambush of Chinese traders

The Manila Police District (MPD) assured the victims of an ambush in Ermita, Manila that tracker teams have been deployed to identify and eventually arrest the armed men who were said to be aboard a motorcycle.

MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Police District (MPD) assured the victims of an ambush in Ermita, Manila that tracker teams have been deployed to identify and eventually arrest the armed men who were said to be aboard a motorcycle.

Reports from the MPD on Thursday said that a 50-year-old Chinese businessman and his companion were inside their vehicle while moving along Padre Burgos Street when the perpetrators stopped in front of their car and fired at the victims.

The businessman managed to park his car while his companion was able to get out of the vehicle, leaving him unharmed.  The businessman on the other hand was injured, and was brought to a nearby private hospital.

MPD said he is currently in a stable condition.

Background information from the police said that the injured victim was into a business of face mask and face shield trading, while his companion has a ready-to-wear clothing store.

A pedicab driver who witnessed the incident is currently serving as MPD’s witness.  According to him, the suspects fled to the southbound lane of Padre Burgos Street, toward Lagusnilad and Taft Avenue.
