NPA member slain in encounter with Army troops in Negros Occidental

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental — A still unidentified communist rebel was killed in an encounter with government troopers in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental early morning on Thursday, April 14.
The Army’s 3rd Infantry Division reported that soldiers of the 94th Infantry Battalion met about 10 members of the New People’s Army (NPA) which led to a gunfight in Sitio San Juan, Barangay Caradio-an.
A soldier was slightly wounded and is now in stable condition.
Recovered from the encounter site were two magazines of a .45 caliber pistol, a hand grenade, short magazine of a M-16 rifle, a tablet, medical kit, and backpack.
Maj. Gen. Benedict Arevalo, 3rd Infantry Division commander, vowed to go after the NPA.
“There is a high possibility that they are trying to intensify their extortion schemes and to also stage attacks days before the May 9, election,” Arevalo said
“But we, together with the communities and government agencies will not stop to spoil their plans,” he added.
