Duterte visits Leyte town devastated by ‘Agaton’, leads situation briefing
MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday headed to Baybay City in Leyte province, which was among several areas in Visayas and Mindanao that Tropical Depression Agaton (international name: Megi) battered early this week.
Duterte first conducted an aerial inspection over Baybay City and then proceeded to preside over a situation briefing with national and local officials of the government to get updates on the number of casualties as well as to assess the extent of Agaton’s damage.

Earlier Friday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that the typhoon has killed 137 people, mostly in the Visayas.
Agaton, the first storm to hit the country this year, weakened into a low-pressure area on Tuesday, April 12, and completely dissipated on Wednesday morning.
A total of 494,607 families or 1.6 million individuals have been displaced by Agaton, 218,310 of whom are currently in 1,033 evacuation centers, according to government data.
