MANILA, Philippines 鈥 The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday conducted a 鈥渟howdown inspection and logistical readiness test鈥 of police equipment they will use for security operations during the elections on May 9.
PNP chief Dionardo Carlos said they did this to assure the public of the 鈥渞eadiness of police units to perform election duty as deputized agents of the Commission on Election.鈥
鈥淭welve days ahead of the elections, all PNP units in the country have been doubling efforts to ensure the safety in the polling centers,鈥 he said in a statement.
鈥淲e will ensure that enough policemen and women will be deployed on polling precincts to guarantee the safety of the voting public, and election officials, and to enforce minimum health protocols,鈥 he added.
The checking of police equipment was held simultaneously in all Police Regional Offices and Provincial Police Offices across the country, Carlos noted.
The PNP chief further said it will be sending off transportation, security, communication, and other mission-essential equipment ahead of the elections on May 9 鈥渢o improve the capability of police units on the ground to ensure a fair, honest, safe, and secure elections.鈥
