SUBIC BAY FREEPORT––An onsite job fair was held Monday, May 2, for the first time in this freeport since it was canceled for two years due to pandemic-related restrictions.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) said the face-to-face job fair was part of the month-long celebration of Labor Day this year.

People looking for jobs trooped to Ayala Mall Harbor Point here in the hope of filling the more than 3,000 job vacancies from companies in this economic zone and nearby Olongapo City, said Rolen Paulino, SBMA chair and administrator.

“I hope every one of you gets a job. And when you get hired, always be a good and hardworking employee. Always put your family at the top of your priorities,” Paulino told applicants.

He added: “When you have problems with your employers, seek help from our SBMA Labor Center, which is always ready to help you resolve your problems. There is nothing that could not be resolved in a peaceful dialogue.”

Lawyer Melvin Varias, SBMA Labor Department manager, said the number of companies which joined the job fair reached 60.

“Subic companies are pleased with [the] job fair because, for the first time in two years, they are able to screen applicants face-to-face, which is more convenient for hiring on the spot,” Varias said.
