Sorsogon Port stranded

LEGAZPI CITY — At least 2,900 passengers who were heading home to vote were stranded on Sunday at the Port of Matnog in Sorsogon province.

Achilles Galindes, acting division manager of the Philippine Ports Authority in Matnog town, said as of 7 a.m., aside from the passengers, 450 light vehicles, 460 trucks and 36 buses bound for Visayas and Mindanao were also stranded since Saturday.

“To be honest, there’s no guarantee that those who will arrive tomorrow can still cross,” he said.

Galindes said the number of daily passengers and rolling cargoes had doubled after the Christmas season.

He said the 13 roll-on-roll-off vessels operating at the port can accommodate 10,000 passengers per day.
